Press Release Summary = Many boarding schools pointedly note that, these days, the
\"prep\" in \"prep school\" refers not just to college preparation -- it also means
preparation for life.

Press Release Body = All in all, a boarding school education prepares the student to
answer the question that every college wants to know about the student\'s high-school
years:

How much did you grow?

Why NOT attend a traditional boarding school?

* If a troubled teen doesn\'t want to attend a traditional boarding school,
don\'t force it on him or her. A good specialty boarding school can magnify
motivation even if the teen is initially unwilling to attend.

* Traditional Boarding School students are highly motivated, self-disciplined
well-mannered students. If your son or daughter isn't self-disciplined or highly
motivated other more appropriate educational options should be considered.

* When you have a troubled teen, or a teen with a history of special needs,
such as an eating disorder or psychological problems, it\'s important for the
school to have special medical and counseling staff to meet the student\'s needs.

* If the student has never met a rule he or she wasn\'t challenged to break.

* If the student is clearly unable to accept new ideas and adapt to new social
interactions.

However, in many of these cases, there is an effective solution -- some specialty
boarding schools are geared specifically to providing such troubled teens with
guidance, the necessary social structure and an excellent education. These schools
are very unique and have proven themselves to be phenomenal in their ability to help
troubled teens and their families reunite while simultaneously allowing the teen
fantastic life, emotional and academic educational opportunities. Counseling is
also available at these schools and these boarding schools are able to work with
students that do not wish to be in such educational environments. The boarding
school doesn\'t replace a parent. The school is more like a sibling, or a mentor.
Partnering with parent, the school reinforces the parent\'s voice. On the other hand,
the boarding school can relieve the parent from having to constantly \"enforce the
rules.\" This may enable the parent to relate from what both parent and student find
a more pleasant position. A single parent, in particular, may find boarding school a
mutually attractive option. Yet, the single parent is often most concerned about the
appearance of this suggestion. How, the single parent worries, will child will see
it? The parent doesn\'t want to be seen as wanting the child \"out of the way.\" Or as
saying the child \"interferes\" with the parent\'s job or social life. The parent may
even feel guilty. Not wanting to appear insensitive, to the single parent it can
seem there is no appropriate way improve the child\'s educational opportunities. The
child\'s counselors and boarding school itself can help work though this issue. Often
the parent is far more concerned than the child is about such appearances. Where the
child lacks a male role model, boarding schools may enable the student to choose
from a wide range of them.

Likewise parents enrolling a child into a specialty boarding school often times feel
bad sometimes feeling that they had failed their child as a parent, ironically
almost universally the opposite is true these parents are so dedicated to their
child\'s sucess that they are willing to spend Harvard tuition rates to give their
child the professional assistance that they need. Some specialty boarding schools
have excellent motivational and awareness coaches that conduct workshops and
educational seminars for the parents of these once struggling teens the parents are
not spectators in their childs growth and development they act as active
participants. As the child progresses they parent (s) and child have opportunities
to re-bond and oftentimes the student will thank their parents for holding them to
higher standards and sacrificing much energy, financial resources, time for their
behalf.

No one school would be right for everyone. The school should meet the student\'s
current interests, yet offer the opportunity to explore new interests as well. The
only \"best\" school is the one that best suits a particular student\'s needs, as
judged by the parents, the school and the student. In a sense, the whole family
attends a boarding school. For traditional boarding school conduct your search as a
family. It is extremely important that your child be involved in the entire process.
For specialty boarding schools oftentimes the student is not at a maturity level to
be involved in the specialty boarding school decision. A specialty boarding school
encompasses many of the positive aspects of traditional boarding schools while
giving more focus and specialization to character building, emotional growth and
development, manners, leadership, confidence and helping teens learn how to make
good decisions.

Clearly, today\'s boarding schools continue to have tremendous academic and social
appeal, and with this added diversity, they remain faithful to their goals of
preparing students for personal growth and exceptional achievement in a changing
world.
